The GY-HM600 is a camcorder for next generation newsgathering. Light, versatile and extremely easy to use, this camera is designed for fast paced ENG delivering exceptional imagery and features for news, sports, and independent production. Offering superb low light performance (F12 at 2000 lux) in Extended Mode, a long (23x) wide angle autofocus zoom lens, and file interoperability from acquisition to air. The camera now also features a user selectable Standard Mode which optimises the camera for use under ideal lighting conditions.

The lightweight camera records HD or SD footage in multiple file formats, including native XDCAM EX™ (.MP4), Final Cut Pro™ (.MOV), and AVCHD, to non-proprietary SDHC or SDXC media cards. In addition to relay mode for uninterrupted recording, the GY-HM600 allows simultaneous recording to both memory cards for instant backup or client copy. The 600 series are the first JVC camcorders to feature 3 x 1920×1080 full HD sensors.
